Would you like to combine academic knowledge with insights from musical performance? Participate in electives from the Bachelor of Musicology at the University of Amsterdam or the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The earned credits count within your current curriculum.

For whom?
The AMMA is open to students of the University of Amsterdam. We also welcome bachelor students of all study years and departments of the Conservatorium of Amsterdam.

For CvA students

We offer three different ways of taking courses at the UvA.

AMMA Joint seminars
(6EC, 1 semester)
A team of teachers with diverse backgrounds engages students of music, musicology, and other majors with topics at the interface of music creation, performance and scholarship.

ELECTIVES of YOUR CHOICE (6 EC, 1 semester). If you have an open mind and are interested in subjects other than music. Check out the wide range of electives the University of Amsterdam offers.

TRAJECTORIES IN MUSICOLOGY (6 EC/42 EC, 1 semester up to 2 years). Enrichening and coherent subject combinations offered at all departments of the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

ACADEMIC MINOR (30 EC, 2 years). Music, culture and cognition.

PRE-MASTER status (42 EC, 2 years). A course package allowing you to directly apply for the Master of Music Studies at the University of Amsterdam.

For UvA students

Take just one course or an entire special music theory-track at the CvA.

SPECIAL TRACK (30 EC, 2 years). You join the music theory and skills classes of one of the departments of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam:

- Classical music theory
- Jazz theory
- Pop / Amsterdam Electronic Music Academy (AEMA)
- Early music theory

ELECTIVES in world music (2 EC, 1 semester). Gain practical experience in a performance tradition of your choice (e.g., Handpercussion, Indian tabla, Javanese gamelan, African mbira, Flamenco, and others).
